Breast Cancer Awareness Presentation

The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of more than 16,000 professional women of African descent in 292 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.

The Kent Area (OH) Chapter, The Links, Incorporated was chartered in 1976. The Chapter’s members reside in the Northeast Ohio counties of Portage, Medina, Stark and Summit; and provide service through programming in those counties.

Delivering and sustaining outstanding programming that transforms the lives of children, families and the communities we serve is achieved through five facets-Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services and Health and Human Services.

The Health and Human Services Facet was established in 2010 in response to chronic health disparities that persist in black communities and result in the decreased life expectancy of African Americans and other people of African ancestry.

The goal of Health and Human Services is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities through education, health advocacy, and utilization of health resources.  Community education about health risks is crucial and The Links, Incorporated plays a significant role in providing that education.
